Rockets to face FIU in Little Caesars Pizza BowlWritten by Mike Bauman | | email@example.com
On the evening of Dec. 5, it was officially announced that Toledo will face Florida International University in the 2010 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl on Dec. 26 in Detroit at Ford Field.
“It’s been in the plan,” second-year Toledo head coach Tim Beckman said. “We’ve talked about it since the day we got here, and we’re just excited about having the opportunity of being with these young men for another 15 practices as we counted them up. We’re just excited about being back.”
This year’s bowl bid marks the Rockets’ Mid-American Conference-leading 11th bowl game appearance and their first since the 2005 GMAC Bowl, when they defeated UTEP 45-13.
“We are excited to have both Toledo and FIU in the 2010 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl,” Little Caesars Pizza Bowl Chairman and Executive Director Ken Hoffman said in a statement. “The Rockets played a very competitive non-conference schedule and went 7-1 in the MAC. As has become our tradition, we expect a tremendous offensive show with both Toledo and Florida International averaging more than 33 points per game during the second half of the season.”
Toledo (8-4, 7-1 MAC) and the Golden Panthers (6-6, 6-2 Sun Belt Conference) will do battle the day after Christmas at 8:30 p.m., and the game will air live on ESPN. The matchup marks the third-consecutive contest between the Rockets and FIU dating back to the 2008 season. The Golden Panthers defeated Toledo 35-16 at the Glass Bowl on Sept. 27, 2008, while the Rockets returned the favor last season at FIU in a 41-31 victory on Sept. 26, 2009.
Tickets for the game will go on sale at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 7 at the UT Athletic Ticket Office. Fans can also call 419-530-GOLD or visit utrockets.com beginning at that same time Dec. 7.
