Reading the comments on this site, you can tell who the Missouri Fans are. Picking up the Huskers by the Big 10 (12) was not only for TVs. The Huskers are back (preseason 9th and some are all the way up to 2nd). Evryone in the nation will tune into OSU-NU or MU-NU or PSU-NU. These are major games that everyone will want to see. The $$$ for viewing are there for the pickings. The Big 10 and NU are the winners in this expansion. I CAN'T WAIT... Lets start NOW!!!!

been a NE fan for most of my life, I know a little about NE football and will agree with David, Small state but large national draw. I have lived in NE for only 5 years, I have lived far from the NE for many years now but most states have watch sites, and NE cornhusker groups, I Live in a small town on the pacific coast. When NE was out here for USC people on this side of the coast were buying season tickets for USC in order to see the game, They would rather see games on PPV than abc cuz many games on abc are regional and though we get east and west coast feeds for the networks, they often don't play that region. We have never missed a NE game. If it is not on TV, we listen to it on the internet. people in this area and I know many others along with us who plan weekends, weddings and lives around husker football. I would pay several hundred dollars a year to assure me to see the games and so do many others I know. THrough thick and thin good and bad years these fans are faithful and true and still do not miss the games. when I first heard Big Ten, I wasn't so sure, then the realization hit, not only a great conference but with Big TEN network I will be able to not only see football but volleyball etc. football has had 304 consecutive sell out home games. along with volleyball which has been sold out since 2001.
MO has a much larger media market than NE however when 100 percent of tv's in Ne are tuned in to the game, along with a sold out stadium and many many national wide fans tuned in how does that compare to a million tv's but few tuned in. Back when I lived in NE the busiest corner in Omaha had no traffic coming thru it when games were on. people who are NE fans live and breath husker sports and would love a big 12 network, however with Texas that will never happen. They refuse. the only network in that conference will be a Longhorn channel, and oh yah Now the sooners want their own channel too, which means the big 12 will never see a network, and the small teams will never see any revenue from televised games from they play with those two teams. Texas comes with a lot of baggage. They would not come unless they were given their own network and will not share a conference network. They also will not come unless they can bring their voting block with them so they can maintain power. they also would expect unequal revenue sharing with them getting the most. Your conference games would at Jerry's world, your conferenc HQ at Dallas, They only want 7 conference games and rotation into the other half of the conference as little as possible or at their convenience. Also if it were to their advantage your rivalries would not be a consideration if it meant they got what they wanted. Jerry Jones is now advocating for a push to recruit Notre Dame and Arkansas, What jerry wants Jerry gets is the saying in Texas.
After this whole fiasco was settled their coach stated in a press conference they deserve to be in charge and its only fitting as most people would take care of their family first. If people don't like it GET OUT of the conference or find smart executives and coaches who can make you more money than Texas. Heck of a thing to say when things are still very tense there. These are the demands that they made to the Pac Ten changing their demands from what was talked about at the last minute. Their legislature and govenor would also be involved in your decisions if they decided to. It is beyond me how people still believe that Texas is a catch. Texas broke up their last conference and is now working on this one. would you like the big ten to be next on their list? If so go ahead recruit them.
Just be prepared.

Nebraska does absolutely bring in TV $$... I wouldn't say second to none (Let's not forget the Irish) but they are up there nationally. Speaking of not forgetting the Irish the next move is to raid the Big East (the conference ND is in for their Olympic sports) recruit Rutgers, Pitt and Syracuse for example and ND will come crawling to Big 10, Touchdown Jesus and all. Now you have a super conference

I totally agree with Chris. Although Nebraska is a respectable addition to the Big Ten, it lacks that "special something" that Notre Dame or Texas bring to the conversation. When Commissioner Delaney first started whispering about conference expansion a few months ago, I fully expected that if and when a school was added, that it would be a WOW moment. Not so. It's actually kind of ho-hum. Finally having a championship game to end the football season is a big perk, but adding a big market program would have been better in the long run. I think this move benefits Nebraska more than it benefits the Big Ten. Time will tell.

author is right on. what does NU bring to the party? Diddly. This move was about TV views and the less than a million in NE and a used to be football team and a lousy Basketball. This did nothing for b10. Missouri was the prize of the B12 outside Texas with two major metro tv markets and a large population base with both FB and BB programs on the ascension. Delaney was sold a pig in a poke with old stories of Husker tradition which means very little in today's bigtime college environment. With no rivals in b10, this was a foolish move and both will live to regret it.

ND was out of the question due to the fact that they are a private school would be aloud to join a public school conference.
Texas hasn't even been considered as a candidate since they're on the wrong side of the country.
Saracuse and the Rutgers wouldn't be a fitting match for the Big Ten because to be honest they aren't good enough or prestigous enough to be in the Big Ten. Nabraska however is a good match for the conference

How are any of the teams you mentioned better: Missouri, Syracuse, Rutgers do not bring a Football brand to the league. WV was and never will be an option due to their low academics. Big Ten is not done, but this eliminated the brand issue, now JD will focus on markets.

If the Big Ten Conference wants Notre Dame, then the next move should be an invitation to Missouri to join the conference. This, in turn, will crumble the Big 12 as Texas A&M and Oklahoma will bolt to the SEC and Texas will consider moving to the Big Ten Conference while Notre Dame will see the light, check its calendar, realize that it is the 21st century & do the right thing.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are a great addition to the Big Ten Conference in the respect that the "product" is significantly enhanced; I will now watch Big Ten football games with greater interest & higher expectations.
If Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan or any other Big Ten team wants to put Texas on its schedule, I suspect that Texas has room with the departure of Nebraska & Colorado.
This article is interesting but lacks credibility as evidenced by its ridiculous claim that West Virginia was considered a top candidate for Big Ten expansion.

The Cornhuskers DO scream "big TV market". It may only be 1.5 million households in Nebraska but it is 2nd to none when it comes to a national television audience.

I was stoked when the Huskers went to the Big Ten... obviously the powers that be in the Big Ten were too. I am sure they wanted a Notre Dame or Texas but after seeing what Texas wants I think they knew Notre Dame would be about the same. Individuality can only go so far; unity conquers it all.

Don't under estimate Nebraska climb back either... Pelini has the football team primed; the volleyball squad is one of the best in the nation; girls b-ball just made the Big Ten better; wrestling, track, and baseball strengthen the Big Ten too.

Aside from sports, with 250+ academic All Americans that lead the nation, we have a standard that has been set too.
