Written by Toledo Free Press Staff Writers | | news@toledofreepress.com

Jim Joyce, an umpire who admitted to blowing a ninth inning call that blew a June 2 perfect game for Detroit Tiger Armando Galarraga, is from Northwest Ohio. According to Major League Baseball’s Web site, Joyce, lives in Oregon, “graduated from Central Catholic High School and received a B.S. in Education from Bowling Green State University in 1977.”

Joyce was named to the Central Catholic H.S. Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 and said his proudest moment as a Major League umpire was working the 1999 and 2001 World Series.

That is the saddest thing. I feel horrible for the pitcher and the umpire. Even though I am not a Tiger’s fan, as a baseball fan I hate to see the wrong thing happen.

Props to the pitcher for being a perfect gentleman and acting in a very postive sportsmanlike manner. Props to the umpire for admitting his mistake and making a personal and public apology.

Nobody is perfect, life happens, and to see two such upstanding people taking the mistake and not “hating” about it should be the real story. What a positive ending to a terrible game finish.

Baseball, simply has to overturn this umps ‘out call’.
    He should then retire .
Maybe then, ObaMao, will offer him a job as a border crossing guard.
This, so that his “perfect eyesight’, will allow even more illegals to INVADE , to murder, kidnap, and assault Americans.
And then to vote for lying ,liberal, criminal loving, Demonrats !!!!!!

…and so why is the TFP trumpeting his NW Ohio roots? Is the worst umpiring call in history worth linking back to NW Ohio?

Must be a slow news month in Toledo.
