Junior golf is alive and well in Toledo
Written by Fred Altvater | | BackNine@toledofreepress.comThe Toledo Junior Golf Association has provided Northwest Ohio junior golfers an opportunity to hone their games in real competition, on the best golf courses the area has to offer. It has separate divisions for girls and boys ages 12 – 18. The structured tournaments help area junior golfers prepare for high school and college golf, as well as, develop skills that will last them a lifetime.
Players compete in 16 regular season tournaments to gain entry into the season ending TJGA Invitational held at Toledo Country Club. They are also competing for individual honors such as: The Frank Stranahan and Sharon Keil Player of the Year Awards, as well as, The Paul Hahn and Karen Stone Sportsmanship Awards.
The first tournament for 2010 will be held May 16th at South Toledo Golf Club. Entries will be accepted beginning May 1st. Tournament enrollment is available to TJGA members only. TJGA has flourished over the years under the guidance of Co-Executive Directors, Karen Stone, Jim McGill, and a Board of Directors that is a “Who’s Who” of Toledo golf. All have donated countless hours of their time to line up sponsors, organize tournaments, and oversee the workings of tour.
The TJGA couldn’t exist without its many fine sponsors; Key Bank, Hart Associates, Brell Holtt & Company, Vito’s Pizza, Savage and Associates, The Osterman Family, Lyden, Liebenthan & Chappell Ltd, McGowan Properties, Paramount Health Care, Joseph Young Family, Dan Klein, The Toledo PGA, as well as the many Toledo area golf courses that host tournaments and contribute to success of the junior tour.
Something new for 2010, Owens Corning is offering to donate 100% of any ticket sales for the LPGA’s Jamie Farr Owens Classic purchased through the Toledo Junior Golf Association back to the TJGA.
