Children’s Wonderland raises 5 tons of foodWritten by Kristen Criswell | | email@example.com
Children’s Wonderland concluded Dec. 24 with more than five tons of food and $1,982.79 raised for the Toledo Seagate Food Bank.
“Children’s Wonderland really showed what our community is made of. People from all walks of life came together to brighten the faces of children and feed the hungry. This truly represents the holiday spirit in Lucas County,” said Ben Konop, Lucas County Commissioner.
The exhibit almost didn’t open this year due to budget cuts in the county. Volunteers from throughout the community worked together to get Children’s Wonderland up and running after Konop and radio personality Andrew “Z” Zepeda asked the community to come forward and save the display on Nov.23.
“I think it was quite a successful event. We heard lots of stories of grandparents and parents who brought children and grandchildren. It was a family event,” said Olga Lopez, Children’s Wonderland co-project chair.
The display was open from Dec. 11 to Dec. 24 in the Erie Street Market.
