Local Verizon call center to close
Written by Gail Burkhardt | | news@toledofreepress.comOn Dec. 2, cellular service provider Verizon Wireless told the 235 employees at its call center in Maumee that the center will close in April.
Verizon is trying to consolidate its resources to save money and the more than 50 other call centers in the country can handle the Maumee center’s calls, said Verizon spokeswoman Laura Merritt.
“It’s not an easy decision; it’s certainly not one that we arbitrarily decide,” she said.
The employees in Maumee will have the opportunity to relocate to other call centers or other positions in the company, such as sales. Verizon also is offering assistance with career advice and resume writing, she said.
“Our top priority is helping as many folks as possible find other positions within our company,” Merritt said.
