Message from Mike Bell: What we can do
Written by Mike Bell | | mayor.toledo@toledo.oh.govDear Toledo voters: I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support on Nov. 3. I appreciate Toledo’s vote of confidence in my leadership and I will not let you down.
I also wanted to publicly thank Keith Wilkowski for his love of this community and for his gracious call on Tuesday night. I want Keith and everyone who supported him to know that I am serious about uniting this city and I welcome your ideas and your energy in our campaign to bring Toledo back.
Now is the time to unite and move this city forward, to overcome our challenges and to meet our promise.
One of the first things I will do when I am sworn in as mayor is put a sign outside my office that says that our conversations will be about what “we” can do, not what “I” can do.
- We will bring Toledo back.
- We will create jobs.
- We will keep our city safe.
- We will balance our budget.
Finally, on election night, I issued a call to elected officials outside Toledo. To county commissioners, mayors, and township trustees in this region, I pledge that we are going to sit down and determine a path forward where we all can prosper.
Thank you again to everyone who was a part of this victory — from the people who had the courage to stand up and back an independent candidate, to the hundreds of people who gave their precious time and money, to the tens of thousands of voters who supported our campaign.
We will unite.
We will succeed.
Mike Bell is the next mayor of the City of Toledo.

Ccngratulations! My vote counted in your success. I have one concern to present.
Retail investment appears to be a key factor in capitalizing upon the synergy created by Fifth Third Field, the Convention Center, and our new Lucas County Arena.
While the DTTID can provide an environment for downtown growth, and with jobs being a priority of your campaign, how might you take advantage of this opportunity to encourage the public sector to invest in core downtown retail?
