The Spore game series continues growing with a second Nintendo DS game, Spore Hero Arena, and the first Wii version, Spore Hero. Production marketing manager Aaron Krause and others recently presented these two games at Electronic Arts’ Blogger’s Day event in Redwood City, California.

Spore Hero has more than 200 new creature parts each with special abilities. This Wii exclusive game includes a storyline where players explore and defend their home planet from the antagonist Zarkhator. Character design flows well with the remote/nunchuk control scheme. The creature customization can produce some unique physical characteristics, which really come to life in basic movements, puzzle solving and fighting. The two player battle mode allows players to test their creations and incorporate unlockable content. Creatures have long range attacks mixed in with quick attacks which require finesse and timing.

Spore Hero Arena features the complexity meter plus a full 3D creator, including a test mode. Multiplayer options include four local players or 2 Wi-Fi players. Players can share content online and test their skills as they travel to different planets, which all have unique rules and fighting challenges. The story is set in the same universe as Spore Hero.

Since the first Spore game was released on the PC in September 2008, EA has released several Spore games in a short time. The Spore series will expand even further into a recently announced animated movie helmed by director Chris Wedge (Ice Age).
