Here we go with the "vacuum effect" again. There is no such animal! The cats are drawn to the artificial food source, not the habitat. Where are all of these vacuum effect cats now? Are they just waiting in the outskirts for a colony cat to disappear so they can fill the void? Of course not. Trap and remove the cats and the food source and you cat problems will go away. It is the misguided caregivers that perpetuate the feral cat epidemics we are experiencing not the "vacuum effect".

The only proven and effective solution to feral cat over population is TNR: trap the cat, fix them and return them to where trapped and care for them.
Lots mistakenly believe trap and removal will solve things. This only creates a vacuum of empty territory that will be quickly filled with cats from the outlying areas. Also removal usually means take them to the city pound and they are killed there. Feral cats are not adoptable and only TNR will solve your problems. TNR will also save everyone money. Thanks

There is nothing humane about reabandoning a cat to live a miserable life outdoors. These cats cannot be re-trapped for booster shots, treatment of internal and external parasites or injuries. These cats just disappear and the misguided caregivers have no idea what happens to them. Let me tell you.....they die horrible deaths from abuse, vehicles, predation and disease. A quick humane death through euthanasia is always preferable to a horrible life in a feral cat colony.
