Way Library to show documentary “A Man Named Pearl”

Written by Toledo Free Press Staff Writers | | news@toledofreepress.com

The Way Public Library in Perrysburg opens the 6th season of its Art & Foreign Film series with “A Man Named Pearl,” at 7 p.m. Sept. 25.

When Pearl Fryar and his wife sought to buy a house in an all-white neighborhood of Bishopville SC, they were met with bigotry and the comment that “black people don’t keep up their yards.” Instead of being angry, it motivates Mr. Fryar to teach himself topiary. He transforms his ordinary yard into a horticultural wonderland, eventually winning national awards for his artwork.

This English-language film will play in the main level auditorium of the library. No reservations necessary.
