‘A Toast to Teeth’ adds bite to Junior League outreach
Written by Christine Senack | | christine@senackandassociates.comOne of the most important things a charity can do is develop a strong network of community partners. Whether they are nonprofit organizations or for-profit businesses, these allies can help raise funds, create programs, offer volunteer assistance and get the word out about the cause.
The Dental Center of Northwest Ohio recently hosted its annual gala, “A Toast to Teeth” and chose the Junior League of Toledo as its honored community partner. The Dental Center’s mission is to provide primary oral health services for underserved children, adults, and seniors in Northwest Ohio, and to provide education and advocacy in oral health.
In 2004 the Junior League of Toledo began its work with the Dental Center developing a project called Toledo Smiles. The project’s purpose is to address unmet oral health needs within the adolescent population. Also the Junior League made a significant donation to the Smile Express which is a state of the art mobile dental office.
Junior League President Alice Mominee said that overall the League has invested approximately $73,000 into the Dental Center’s equipment and its programs.
Dental Center’s Executive Director, Lindy Cree was pleased to honor the Junior League’s investment and participation in their programs.
“We would not be here today doing what we are doing without the Junior League’s investment over the past five years,” said Cree. “In addition to what they have done, we have used the League’s donations to leverage other grants and donated services.”
Since the start of the partnership, more than 150 Junior League members have volunteered for Toledo Smiles, which has reached 2,000 students.

Another great example of the great work being done by Junior League chapters across the country. For some added perspective and inspiration, I invite you to check out this short video — ahamoment.com/pg/moments/view/2555 — about one Junior League volunteer’s “aha moment” that the even small acts to help others can have real, lasting impact. I think you’ll find it very inspirational.
Thanks,
