Circus to raise money for local Lions Club

Written by Caitlin McGlade | | news@toledofreepress.com

Acrobats, clowns, elephants and more will raise more than circus tents on Aug. 6, when the Kelly Miller Circus comes to town.

If guests buy pre-sale tickets now, the Sylvania Sunrise Lions Club will receive 40 percent of the $10 adult tickets and 25 percent of kid sales, with prices at $6.

The circus will be located at the corner of Centennial Rd. and Brint Rd., brimming with “old style” acts within two performances at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The event has 1,000 adult tickets and 1,000 kid tickets to sell, and each show seats about 1,500 people, said John Kruszewski, chairman of the circus committee for the Sylvania Sunrise Lions Club.

The Lions Club will use the proceeds locally, funding programs such as scholarships for high school students, drug and alcohol awareness agencies or aiding people with health needs, Kruszewski said.

Circus employees will start unloading and feeding the animals at 7:30 a.m. and guests can partake in activities and watch the elephants raise the top of the tent.

Tickets for the circus at the door are $14 for adults and $7 for children and the Lions Club only receives money from the pre-sale tickets, Kruszewski said. Purchase pre-sale tickets at Andersons Food Market, Sautter’s Market or email Kruszewski at Sylvania.lion@gmail.com.

I called the day before the circus at around 6:30 pm to find out about tickets. Both Anderson’s & Sautters told me someone had already picked up the tickets they had left and I could no longer get them. Had I known I needed to go earlier in the day I would have done that. It should be on your flyer so people are aware. I won’t be going now because I can’t afford to pay the extra $$ for circus day prices.
