Golfers to raise money for engineering students

SSOE employees are aiming to involve at least 144 people in a golf outing to support a college scholarship and honor electrical engineering intern and UT student Frank Forde Allen, who died in a motorcycle accident in May 2008.

On August 8, golfers can attend the outing at Maumee Bay State Park for $80, with all proceeds benefitting the Frank Forde Allen/SSOE Scholarship Foundation. The financial aid could support a UT engineering student who graduated from Willoughby High School or is interning for SSOE, said John Colley, electrical department manager at SSOE.

Allen interned at SSOE for three years and Colley said he wants to honor him through this event annually. Allen lived on a public course in Willoughby, Ohio and he collected golf balls to bring to his co-workers at SSOE, so the golf outing is a fitting way to remember him, Colley added.

The $80 ticket will include an 18-hole golf course, an electric golf cart and a light lunch. Registration begins at 7 a.m., and golfers can also sign up on SSOE’s Web site at http://www.ssoe.com/LP/register.aspx.
