Joseph Carter to run for Council
Written by Mark Hensch | | news@toledofreepress.comDemocrat Joseph Carter joined the race for Toledo City Council around 3 p.m. July 1. A phone technician for Verizon Communications, Carter’s addition onto the ballot is the latest in the battle for six councilman at-large seats.
“As a councilman I want to look to the public,” he said. “I want to serve the citizens of Toledo and make the city a better place to live.”
Carter said he is a father of three who served as a US Army combat engineer 1991 to 1994 in the First Gulf War. He never saw combat, he said. He describes himself as a representative of the working class, he said.
“I like to think of myself as a Democrat of my grandfather’s day,” Carter said. “Without a working class there is no society. If we bring back businesses we can revitalize the city.”
Carter said Toledo possessed untapped potential for success. He said he would work hard at rejuvenating Toledo should the city’s residents elect him to Council.
“The surrounding communities are full of Toledo residents who found something lacking in the city,” Carter said. “It is time to bring morals, ethics and values back to the city.”
