Refreshment options expanding at MIS

Concession options are expanding at Michigan International Speedway (MIS), in addition to beacoming more affordable.

MIS has added two value meal packages to its menu, which include hot dogs, fries and a beverage. Those  range from $8 to $10.

MIS is also offering a kid’s meal, which includes chicken nuggets, an apple slice, juice and a toy. The cost is $4, and it is something that has never been offered at MIS.

According to MIS Manager of Public Relations Dennis Worden, the speedway has cut concession prices across the board by 25 percent. This includes reducing the cost of hamburgers, hot dogs, Dasani water and 20-pound bags of ice.

“We are doing things to save you money,” Worden said.

Moreover, Worden said guests can still bring their own food and beverages, as long as it fits in the MIS-approved cooler size.

“This isn’t like going to a Lions game,” he said. “You can bring anything you want as long as it’s in the 6-by-6-by-12 cooler. It makes us unique to professional venues.”

Among improvements is the debut of unique eating options, where MIS only had concession stands before, Worden said.

MIS added an Irish Hills Pub, which will serve Irish food, as well as a Backwoods Barbeque stand, a Coney Island area and a Subway.

“We’re trying to bring in things unique to the area,” Worden said. “The original Coney Island was in Detroit.”

Also, the Irish Hills Pub serves the area well, as MIS is located in the Irish Hills, he said.

Worden also said this will be the first time MIS has offered Subway. While it isn’t like the traditional Subway where the subs are made in front of you, Worden said guests will be able to purchase pre-made Subway subs.
