UPDATE: Neff sentence: probation, anger management
Written by Toledo Free Press Staff Writers | | news@toledofreepress.comTroy Neff said April 6 he accepted a plea bargain for a first-degree misdemeanor assault charge stemming from a road rage incident.
Neff’s charge was reduced to a fourth-degree misdemeanor and he received 30 days suspended, 2 years probation and will be required to sign up for anger management classes, which Neff said he will start April 8.
“It was exactly what was expected,” Neff said.
Neff decided to take a plea bargain after realizing that no matter what he did, it would not affect the outcome of Jeffrey Hardenman’s case, he said.
Neff and Jeffrey Hardeman, of Knoxville, Tenn., were involved in a Dec. 10 road rage incident in Perrysburg Township. Neff hit Hardeman several times and Hardeman stabbed Neff three times.
Hardeman was charged with felonious assault and tampering with evidence. Hardeman went back to Tennessee on his own recognizance after he waived his right to a hearing Dec. 18. The grand jury failed to return a formal indictment in February, and Neff said Hardeman will accept a deal for a first-degree misdemeanor.
“It was more important to get this behind me and stop being in the news,” Neff said.
Neff was pulled over for driving under the influence Jan. 19. He has since pleaded no contest. His license was suspended for six months with work privileges and he will attend a Driver Improvement Program, commonly known as DIP.
“I have made a lot of changes to my life,” Neff said, declining to elaborate.
