Konop to run for mayorWritten by Toledo Free Press Staff Writers | | firstname.lastname@example.org
Ben Konop, a Democrat and Lucas County Commissioner, will declare his candidacy for the 2009 Toledo mayoral race March 30 at UT.
According to a news release, Konop’s speech will be followed by a question-and-answer session with a UT political science class that is closed to the public and the media. Konop will then volunteer his time with the Feed Your Neighbor and Community Gardens program at Toledo Botanical Gardens and talk with unemployed citizens Monday afternoon at The Source.
In his speech at UT, Konop will outline the problems facing Toledo’s working class and next generation, draw clear distinctions between himself and the status quo politicians who have held leadership positions throughout the city’s decades-long decline, and offer a blueprint for a Glass City turnaround.
“I am running for mayor of our great city because I feel I am the most likely candidate to lead Toledo in a new direction,” Konop said. “The same people have been elected and appointed to positions of power here for over 20 years, and in that time the city has deteriorated before our eyes. I believe the people are hungry for real change, and I have developed a track record as Lucas County Commissioner of pressing for the kind of change they seek.”
Konop’s campaign Web site, www.konop4mayor.com, will be operational March 30. The campaign’s official phone number is (419) 467-8770.
