Casino advocates renew Ohio gambling push

Written by Associated Press | | news@toledofreepress.com

Casino advocates are approaching Ohio leaders with competing proposals for full-scale gambling sites, pitching them as an ideal way to increase revenue in the face of a projected $7 billion deficit.

The Columbus Dispatch reported Saturday that the gaming company behind Toledo’s Raceway Park has discussed its plan with state lawmakers and Gov. Ted Strickland’s staff.

A draft obtained by The Dispatch shows Penn National Gaming’s proposal for casinos at seven racetracks and four stand-alone sites in Ohio’s largest cities.

Also, the group behind a defeated 2008 casino measure hopes to have a November ballot issue for at least three casinos.

Voters have repeatedly rejected proposals to create casinos in Ohio.
