The Wayne Homes branch in Wood County is taking donations for Alicia’s Voice, a resource center for victims of domestic violence.

Wayne Homes, a home builder company, is accepting donations of shampoos, toys, clothing, money or anything that might be useful to Alicia’s Voice, in their model home center in Cygnet, said Randy Surline, the division sales manager.

Alicia’s mother, Kathy Newlove and Alicia’s friend, a Deputy Sheriff for Domestic Violence, Mary Ann Robinson, founded “Alicia’s Voice – Citizens Against Domestic Violence” in July 2008 in honor of Alicia (Sears) Castillon who was murdered by an ex-boyfriend in March of 2006.

“We made something positive out of horrific experience. I just knew that I couldn’t let my daughter die in vain. This is my daughter’s legacy,” Newlove said.

The staff of Wayne Homes is very “in tune” with its community, which is why they decided to help, said Randy Surline the Division Sales manager for the branch located in Cygnet, Ohio outside of Bowling Green. They also have a good relationship with the realtor community including Newlove Realty where Kathy Newlove works.

The resource center with Alicia’s Voice is located in Bowling Green and provides women with the services they need to get away from their abusers, Newlove said. Instead of going to different agencies like a shelter or to get food stamps, women can come to Alicia’s Voice and the individual agencies will come to the center, she said.

That way women who do not have their own transportation can get the help they need and they aren’t forced to go back to their aggressors because they can’t make it to all of the agencies for assistance, Newlove said. The center also is working on getting more vans to pick women up from their homes and it has a child care center for the women while they work with the different agencies.

It took a year-and-a-half to work with all of the organizations together, she said.

“We have all come together and are working which is wonderful,” Newlove said.
