Urban Active continues toy drive

Urban Active continues to offer a free month work out for those who help the less fortunate.

Anyone who drops off a new, minimum $10 toy at the local Urban Active will receive a 30-day work out pass.

“We’re very picky and responsible to giving out free passes,” Dan Koehler, general manager of Urban Active in Toledo. “We want to make sure it’s a quality toy, definitely something that someone else could use.”

The toy drive started Dec. 8 and will continue through Dec. 23.

The toys will be taken to The Church on Strayer to less fortunate children for Christmas.

“The Church on Strayer will be giving all the toys to families in need,” he said. “I feel this kind of weird how it all went on because the priest here is a member [of Urban Active].”

The goal is to collect 3,000 toys company wide. Toys can be anything from music, CDs, books, gift cards, sport equipments, and games for infants to 18 year olds.

“Urban Active is a health and fitness chain committed to give back to its communities that supports them, especially this holiday season when fiscal times are very meager for too many families. We wish to provide as many toys as possible to many children who would otherwise end up empty handed. It is our heartfelt goal to bring joy to the hearts of thousands of those less fortunate during this season of gift giving,” said Royce Pulliam, CEO of Urban Active, in a news release.

Last month Urban Active had a similar campaign, offering a 30-day work out pass to anyone who donated non-perishable food.

Koehler said Toledo raised the most, at least 1,800, out of the 28 Urban Active store locations.

“It worked out pretty good for us,” Koehler said. Many members signed up for membership after the 30- day pass ended, he said.

As of Dec. 10, Urban Active has received 80 toys for the drive, he said.

“This is a great opportunity to give back … and to be able to give those who are a little bit less fortunate than us and really provide them with something very neat or cool,” Kohler said.

Urban Active is located on 2859 N. Holland Sylvania road.
