Ohio county laying off 20, fixing windows

Lucas County will lay off 20 employees Jan. 1 in hopes of saving about $1.1 million dollars next year.

Lucas County commissioners approved the cuts Tuesday at a meeting where the officials also voted to spend $450,000 on a four-year project to replace windows at a building where some of the people being laid off work.

Commissioner Ben Konop cast the sole “no” vote on the window plan, saying it suggested the county was in a “twilight zone” with its priorities in the wrong place.

But Commissioner Tina Skeldon-Wozniak said if the windows aren’t fixed, the county could face a big bill for water damage later. Many of the current windows have duct tape covering over large cracks.
