Urban Active launches charity campaign
Written by Aya Khalil | | news@toledofreepress.comHelp a family in need and receive a 30-day free work out pass at Urban Active.
Urban Active launched a food drive Nov. 6 and will continue through Nov. 26, which will benefit Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank, Inc.
Residents will receive a workout pass for 30 days as a thank you token when they drop off five non-perishable foods at a local Urban Active location.
This simple act is to help feed less fortunate families this Thanksgiving.
Silvia Bordeaux, spokesperson for Urban Active said this is a great way to help out in the community.
“We want to help the less fortunate this season, especially now … a lot of people are suffering and losing jobs,” she said. “Urban Active is very compassionate with the community.”
This is the first year Urban Active, with 38 locations in Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee, is taking part in this campaign.
“We have so many members that are so generous,” Bordeaux said. “We have the means and we want to give back.”
In October, Urban Active welcomed hundreds of people who were affected by the economy to work out for free.
“A lot of people were losing jobs and couldn’t afford memberships. Stress causes illness. Exercise is a stress reliever. They were so happy about it, it’s such a great feeling to be able to make a difference,” she said.
This month, Urban Active is giving back to the community again, but taking a further step.
“We decided okay, this month lets help even more by working with food banks to make sure no family goes hungry this thanksgiving,” she said.
Bordeaux said people can donate more than five items, and every family member can donate in order to get the free month pass.
Participating residents will receive a 30-day pass to work out for free, redeemable any time.
Items will be collected until Nov. 26 and delivered to the Northwestern Ohio Food Bank, Inc. on Nov. 27. Urban Active’s food collection goal is 30,000.
Urban Active is located on 2859 N. Holland Sylvania road.
