Toledo police prepare for ‘election aftermath’Written by Associated Press | | firstname.lastname@example.org
Toledo Police Chief Mike Navarre says officers will wear helmets and have gas masks available for the presidential election on Tuesday and any possible aftermath Wednesday.
He says the equipment is not normally used and is similar to that worn during race riots in 2005.
Navarre says no officers will be stationed at the polls.
An internal department memo sent Thursday and obtained by WNWO-TV in Toledo says police will be directed to patrol polling locations and ballot collection sites. It also says supervisors should be familiar with riot equipment, including gas and pepper spray, and equipment used to respond to civil disturbances, such as riot sticks and flexible handcuffs.
The memo says there is no specific information indicating that there will be problems.
