“American Experience: Nixon,” 9 p.m. Oct. 13 on WGTE TV: This three-hour presentation provides a revealing look at Richard Nixon’s life and political career.
“Frontline: The Choice 2008,” 9 p.m. Oct. 14 on WGTE TV: Examines the personal and political biographies of John McCain and Barack Obama. Goes behind the headlines to discover how they arrived at this moment and what their very different candidacies say about America.
“Plugged-In,” 8 p.m. Oct. 15 on WGTE TV: WGTE’s monthly science series explores how forensic science is really done, even when the CSI cameras are nowhere to be found; we also find out how the economy and the environment benefit from consumers choosing to buy local goods and services; and we’ll study the ecology of Lake Erie.
Jay Black concert
Jay Black will appear in the Franciscan Theatre and Conference Center of Lourdes College on Oct. 17 at 8:30 p.m. Lourdes College students, faculty, staff and alumni can receive two free tickets with a valid Lourdes College ID card. Annual church bazaar
A Bazaar will take place at the St. Michael Lutheran Church in Ottawa Lake, Mich., on Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be raffles, auctions, crafts and a bake sale. All proceeds go to local charities. The church is located at 5790 W. Temperance Road.
Charity fashion show
The Toledo Children’s Hospital is hosting a girl’s fashion show Nov. 15 and Nov. 16 from noon to 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and proceeds will benefit Toledo Children’s Hospital Foundation. The show will take place at Hilton Garden Inn located on 3920 Levis Commons Blvd. in Perrysburg. To purchase tickets call (419) 291-5463
Harvest of Thanks
The Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank Inc. is hosting its annual Harvest of Thanks. This year’s Harvest of Thanks will feature a dinner dance with the KGB Band and more than 100 silent-and-live auction items donated by local artists, restaurants, health and wellness centers, golf courses, comedy clubs and other local companies and area sports teams.

Fall fashion show
CJ Closet, gently used clothing and designer closeouts, will bring fall and winter fashions to Clara J’s Tea Room on Oct. 17. BGSU race forum
The Committee Advancing Racial Equality/CARE will host its 6th “RACE” event at BGSU.
The title of the event, which will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 14, is “From Conversation to Action: Race in the Public Arena.”
Two films will be screened followed by a dialogue and discussion. The films are “Silences” and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker A.M. Chamber music
The renowned Salzedo Harp Duo will begin the new season of concerts in Chamber Music Toledo’s 2008-2009 Artist Series, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 200 E. Broadway St. in Maumee. Individual ticket prices are $12 for adults ($8 if purchased by Nov. 7); $5 for college students with ID; and $1 for ages 6 to 18.

‘Songcatcher’ at Way
The Way Public Library in Perrysburg continues the Art & Foreign Film series Reel Art @ Way. On Oct. 17 the library will show the 1999 film “Songcatcher.” This English-language film begins at 7 p.m. Admission and refreshments are free. The library is located at 101 E. Sapphire Ball celebrates 48th year
Toledo Opera is celebrating its 50th year and its 48th Sapphire Ball. The 2008 Sapphire Ball will take place at Dana’s Door Street Campus on Nov. 1. The theme of this year’s ball is “Un Ballo in Maschera,” the name of an opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi. Tickets begin at $250, and proceeds from the event provide 10 percent of the funds needed to produce operas in Toledo. ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’ rides into Maumee
Maumee Branch Library, 501 River Road, welcomes The Stevens Puppets as they bring Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” to life with wooden marionettes, scheduled at 7 p.m. Oct. 20.
