The Retirement Guys don’t just talk the talk. They write, too.

Nolan Baker, an investment professional and founder of Retirement Specialists of Northwest Ohio, and Mark Clair, estate planning attorney of the Clair Estate Planning Law Firm, are teaming up for a second time: This time to write a regular column for Toledo Free Press.

As part of their collaborative mission, they began hosting a radio show more than seven years ago. It airs every Saturday at noon on 1370 WSPD-AM and every Sunday at 11 a.m. on 1230 WCWA-AM.

Their column in Toledo Free Press will address some of the material talked about on their show, in addition to topics suggested by readers.

A topic they like to talk about is the asset cycle. A common mistake is putting all your money in the stock market.

“We want to help people not make panic decisions with their money or not be paralyzed,” Baker said. “Oftentimes, when people look at their finances, they let their emotions get involved.”

Topics their columns will address will include why many retirees buy long-term care insurance and don’t have to and what to do to allow your IRA to grow tax-free.

Clair said it’s not too late to start planning for retirement even if you are retiring shortly. He suggests a game plan that breaks down the income you need right now; income five years from now; 15 years from now; and 20 years from now.

“If you do have money in the stock market, that is money for down the road,” Clair said. “If something happens bad in the market today, if you have a plan in place, it is not affecting your income.”

“I think the main thing,” Baker said, “is the unique approach we offer to the community in combining the legal planning with financial planning.”
