TFP Web site debuts

Written by Stephanie Zarecki | | news@toledofreepress.com

Toledo Free Press launched its new Web site Sept. 26.

Designed primarily by Ryan Shull, Web architect of Insight Advertising, the re-designed Web site offers features and links to make getting news easier.

“The most notable change is the amount of stuff on the new Web site,” Shull said. “It has a more contemporary look and the local stocks, TV listings and other quick links on the home page offer people the ability to get to what they’re looking for quickly and efficiently.”

There are a number of new features on the home page including live streaming local stock quotes and live traffic maps. There is also an events calendar for visitors to post events for the community and there are direct links to the classifieds.

The home page also features tabs with a listing of recently added news stories. Visitors can choose to browse the latest news, this week’s top stories or last week’s top stories. After reading a story, visitors can post comments or feedback to the story.

“People who go to news sites don’t want to waste time trying to find what they’re looking for,” Shull said. “They want to get [the news] quickly and move on.”

Shull said stories are sorted by category and listed on the home page or visitors can use the search option or the latest news link.

Toledo Free Press Editor in Chief Michael S. Miller said the most important new element is seven-day news coverage.

“We will post breaking news stories and releases every day of the week, several times each day, to give readers another source for local information,” he said.

Shull cautioned the site is a beta version that will be updated.
