The ArtTatumAfrican-AmericanResourceCenter at Kent Branch Library, 3101 Collingwood Blvd., will celebrate the birthday of the late jazz artist Art Tatum with an evening of live jazz music scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 10.
Live jazz music will be performed by stand-up bassist Clifford Murphy and pianist Claude Black, of the local jazz group The Murphy’s. Refreshments will be provided.
The Kent Branch Library will open after its regular branch hours. Tickets for the event are only $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Art Tatum (1909-1956) was legally blind in one eye and partially in the other, and is still known as arguably one of the greatest jazz pianist ever. Tatum was born and reared in Toledo and was largely self-taught, but did receive some music instruction at the former Toledo School of Music.
