My blog as a cartoon

Written by Lisa Renee Ward | | news@toledofreepress.com

All of us need a little break at times with some humor in our lives, and that can also be found in the world of blogging. Not joke blogs, though those exist but there are cartoonists ranging from the paid professional to the passionate newbie that you can find while searching the blogosphere.

One of the things I like about Andertoons is that it’s more than just cartoons, it’s also a blog where some great tips are shared from time to time for the next generation of aspiring cartoonists. When you add that and the great cartoons that Mark Anderson shares? It makes my list of favorites.

Sometimes the name can give you an excellent clue as to what to expect, Attack Cartoons is exactly what the name implies. The political satire is at times dark, at times snarky but it will make you laugh. Unless of course if you are very politically correct, then don’t click the link.

Do you work in a cubicle or have you escaped from one? If so, My Life in a Cube will brighten your work day moments. Well, only if you are allowed to access the internet to read cartoons. If not? Wait till you get home, we don’t want anyone forcibly removed from their cubicles…

The Federators is more than just drawn cartoons, they also have videos! It’s a great blog to learn about upcoming workshops and other information related to drawing. You can also see work from quite a few people shared here.

Want more than a cartoon? Want to know the story that inspired the cartoon? Then the Dry Bones Blog is what you are looking for. This blog is written in Israel, but he covers not only news from there but also cartoons that are about us here in the U.S.

For a great site that not only has lists of cartoon blogs to select from but also provides news on what’s hot in the cartoon industry, I recommend The Daily Cartoonist. It gives the professional, the novice and the fan some great resources.

Last but not least, a cartoon blog that I’m a bit biased towards, A Modern Melodrama in part because I think it’s funny but also because the creator picked an excellent name to pen the cartoon under. It’s still new but following the life of "Zoe" has been enjoyable so far.

In classic cartoonistic flair it’s time to say "that’s all folks" at least for this week’s column.

Wishing she could draw more than stick figures, Lisa Renee can be found on Glass City Jungle and you can reach her by email if there is a blog out there you’d like her to know about at glasscityjungle@gmail.com.
