Last summer Lourdes College launched its own social networking Web site and on Aug. 1, the college will celebrate the completion of the site’s successful freshman year.
The interactive site, LourdesWorld.com, received 35,205 page views from Aug. 1 to June 30. Nearly 40 percent of all viewers to the Web site were first- time visitors, according to the college.
Similar to hit sites Facebook, MySpace and YouTube, LourdesWorld.com allows faculty, staff and students to share photos, videos, podcasts and stories about their Lourdes College experience. It is the first of its kind in Northwest Ohio.
Working in conjunction with Thread Information Design, LourdesWorld.com has done more than capture the eyes of Lourdes students.
“LourdesWorld.com started out as a fun place for students, alumni, faculty and staff to interact. But in its first year, it has already evolved into something even more,” says Liz Boltz, assistant director of college relations. “Our bloggers are sharing experiences and photos from around the world.”
Although designed specifically for students, alumni and other members of the Lourdes community, the public is invited to interact through comments, blogs and podcasts.
“People who visit the site can join the larger conversation by debating issues, sharing opinions and learning more about Lourdes,” Boltz said.
