Loop set to jazz up Downtown venuesWritten by John Dorsey | | email@example.com
The Jazz Loop, the annual fundraiser for the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo (ACGT) and the Toledo Jazz Society, is set to make its way through a number of musical hot spots on June 6.
This year, the event will feature Chris Collins and the Shamrock Shore at The Blarney Irish Pub & Grill; the Glenn Tucker Trio, Glenda McFarin and The Murphys at Murphy’s Place; the Damien Cook Quartet at Manhattan’s; Big Blues Bob & The Thin Ice Band at Wesley’s Bar and Grill; Voodoo Libido at Packo’s at the Park; the Mike Whitty Quartet at Rockwell’s Lounge at the Oliver House; and the Carl Hillenbrand Combo at the 20 North Gallery. The event is being presented by Harold Jaffe Jewelers. Volunteers are being provided by the young professionals of EPIC Toledo.
“While this event serves as both friendraiser and fundraiser for our organizations, it is also designed to support Downtown business and local and regional musical talent. Both our organizations recommend talent and then volunteers call and discuss partnership with the venues, discuss their needs and entertainment preferences,” said ACGT Executive Director Marc Folk. “There are a couple of things that make the event different from years past. The first is the date. The event has been historically held on the Friday Night of the Art Tatum Heritage Jazz Festival. This year we moved the event back a week, to kick off more of a ‘jazz week’ and bring attention to the festival further in advance.
“We also focused on keeping the venues more closely clustered. This was done in response to requests from past event attendees to improve the walkability between them and reduce the travel time on the shuttle.”
The Loop will run from 8 p.m. until midnight, with wristbands that allow patrons to ride buses and hop between venues throughout the evening. Wristbands can be purchased in advance for $10 at the offices of the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo located at 1838 Parkwood Ave. and the Toledo Jazz Society at 151 N. Michigan in Suite 307 of the Davis Building. They can also be picked up at any participating Loop venue. The cost is $15 on the day of the event.
