Grill masters offer tips for at-home cooks

Written by Lisa Renee Ward | | lward@toledofreepress.com

I am the griller of our house, normally I prefer using charcoal with wood chips, occasionally using the smoker part of our grill though once in a while the speed of propane is tempting.  With the warm breeze the other day, my thoughts turned to grilling and what new things I would try this year.  So off to the internet I went in search of some good grilling blogs.

The first blog I came across that caught my attention was Grill Maestro where I’m proud to say I knew not to use a fork to turn my steaks.  However, some of the recipes listed there like the “carpetbagger steak” sounded very tempting.  I’m probably the only one who will eat oysters but hey!  More for me!

Need more than recipes but some advice on what type of grill might work best for you?  Then I recommend  Grilling from the folks at About.com.  It’s a nice site to read about new products as well as get some tips on how to make things like BBQ beef.

Simply Cook has more than just grilling but I have to say after reading about the grilled S’more sandwiches that use Angel Food cake?  I bookmarked this blog site and I recommend you too do.

I love crab cakes, but I would have never realized I could make them on the grill had I not found Barbeque General.  Perfect place to get recipes and tips from a championship BBQ’r.  This is another blog that you will want to spend some time on and not read it hungry.

Obsessed with grilled cheese sandwiches?  Yes Virginia, there is a blog for you too, called as you would guess, “The grilled cheese blog”.  There are even competitions for those of you out there who know how to make a mean grilled cheese sandwich.

From SW Ohio comes Bucky’s Barbeque & Bread where the image that Curt McAdams selected for his blog will probably make your mouth water before you start reading his posts.  This is a great place to learn techniques when it comes to grilling and there are lots of photos you can drool over and aspire to duplicate.

Fond of chicken?  The perfect place to go for chicken recipes both on the grill and on the stove is Chicken Recipes Please.  The Thai Cilantro BBQ Chicken is on my list of “must grills” that Rick James has recently blogged about grilling.

Ready to fire up that grill now?  While you are waiting for the coals to heat up or that chicken to grill to perfection, stop by Glass City Jungle where you will find Lisa Renee.  If you have a blog you’d like to share, it’s as easy as sending an email to glasscityjungle@gmail.com.
