Publication highlights local firm

AccuShred, a Toledo-based data destruction company, received exposure coast to coast as the cover story of the November/December 2007 issue of Secure Destruction Business magazine, a national industry trade publication.

The cover features company executives Barry Gudelman, president; Chuck Small, sales manager; and Nate Segall, vice president, who also serves as president of the National Association for Information Destruction.

The article, “Promote and Prosper,” highlights the company’s assets, said Segall, who also said he had discussions with the Richfield, Ohio-based magazine’s editor and eventually was approached at a conference.

The publication targets industry players rather than end users and consumers, which helps distinguish AccuShred among its peers.

“Certainly, it’s a great story. It’s a good opportunity for us to get our message out,” he said. “It highlights how we go about conducting business, and we’ll be able to use it certainly as a marketing piece to help promote our business.”

Secure Destruction lauds AccuShred’s “education-based approach” to customer service and a “strong promotional mindset to grow its business and become an advocate” of the information destruction community.

The author recognized the company’s quick growth after opening in 2002 as a division of State Paper & Metal Company in Toledo.

The four-page piece focuses on company growth and cites Segall as a leader who “… has helped spearhead that growth by taking a thorough approach to understanding customers and their needs.”

“We actually had an accounting office that every year would rent equipment, completely shut down their office operations and have nine staff members do nothing but shred for two days,” he told the magazine.

AccuShred recycled the firm’s “shreds” one year, calculated the costs for destroying the information and returned with an estimate of about $200.

“After doing the math, it was a pretty simple decision,” he said. “They became a customer a couple of weeks later and haven’t looked back since that day.”
