Pounds awarded highest Red Cross honorWritten by Toledo Free Press Staff Writers | | firstname.lastname@example.org
Tom Pounds, president and publisher of Toledo Free Press, was awarded The Clara Barton honor award for meritorious volunteer leadership on Sept. 27. The award recognizes outstanding service in volunteer leadership and is the highest honor a volunteer can receive from the American Red Cross. Pounds joined the Red Cross Board of Directors in 2001. During that time, he served as Board chair from 2004 through 2005 and is responsible for the hiring of Tim Yenrick, local executive director.
“As the publisher of Toledo Free Press, he helps promote the work of the Red Cross. For the past two years, Tom has been our nominations committee chair and has recruited an outstanding array of excellent Board members,” Yenrick said.
Pounds, a 2007 Toledoan of the Year recipient, said his work with the Red Cross has been a highlight of his time in Toledo.
“I have met and worked with some outstanding people in the Red Cross, and seen firsthand how the community benefits from their work,” Pounds said. “I appreciate the recognition but always defer to the volunteers and people who do this great work every day.”
