Monday Morning Painters on displayWritten by David J. Coehrs | | firstname.lastname@example.org
For more than 50 years, their members have enjoyed rising early after the weekend, joking and laughing over breakfast, then traveling as a group to one of Toledo’s metroparks or a similarly bucolic setting, where they satisfy their shared passion for rendering landscapes in watercolors and oils.
They’re the Monday Morning Painters, and more than 50 pieces of their art will be exhibited beginning Sept. 30, at the Heidelberg College campus, 1757 Indian Wood Circle in Arrowhead Park, Maumee.
Dave Smith, a retired teacher for Rossford Public Schools, joined the group four years ago.
“There are no rules, no meetings and no fees,” he said. “And you can learn a lot. Some of these guys have been doing it all of their lives, and a couple of members are in their 90s. There’s quite a bit of talent here.”
The Monday Morning Painters also had their paintings exhibited at Heidelberg College’s local building two years ago. Mike Pratt, associate vice president of academic affairs, said the facility intends to continue displaying their artwork.
“They’re a cream-of-the-crop group,” he said. “It’s spectacular stuff. I appreciate what I see on the walls.”
The exhibit will run through Nov. 30. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon.
