Keep police station openWritten by Autumn Lee | | firstname.lastname@example.org
The most important function of Toledo City Government is to provide for the safety and welfare of the people who live and work in the city. Closing the Northwest District Police Station would not be in the best interest of the people of Toledo.
Psychology professor Abraham Maslow said, “The second most important need for human beings is the need to feel safe and secure in their environment.” Closing the police station would definitely make people feel less safe and secure. The police station on Sylvania Avenue is a convenient place for residents to seek help or file a complaint. The physical presence alone offers citizens a sense of stability and security.
Sending patrol cars from the Scott Park District station or from Downtown to the west and north side of Toledo is not the same as having police officers in the neighborhood. If the station is closed, response time for critical situations would be affected. The original reason the NW police station was opened was to provide better service and response time to north and west Toledo. Is the city of Toledo saying that things have changed for the better? I don’t think so.
We need a police station in NW Toledo now more than ever before.
The city of Toledo’s No. 1 priority should be to provide for the safety and security of the people who live and work in the city. This can be accomplished by providing the best police and fire protection available. Keeping the NW District Police Station open will help ensure the safety and security of the citizens of Toledo.
