The story so far …Written by Tom Pounds | President / Publisher | email@example.com
As our publication nears its 100th issue, a lot has changed. Our page count, breadth and quality of content have steadily improved since our March 2005 debut. With this issue, our reach expands from 30,000 copies to 150,000, putting us in front of more than 400,000 readers. We have purchased a building in the Warehouse District, and are working to establish our company as a good citizen supporting Downtown Toledo. In addition to the hundreds of local, small businesses that have supported us through advertising and distribution, we are now joined by several larger companies that have a stake in the future of our community.
Despite the changes, most of our core missions and values remain word-for-word as we stated them 99 issues ago.
The name of our newspaper reflects a double meaning: we are a free-distribution newspaper and we are an independent voice in Toledo and the region. The purpose for our publication is to offer area residents a positive look at the community and its economic development. We practice community journalism, which means we look at both the positive aspects of life in our area as well the issues that hinder our development. This does not mean we will shy away from hard news, but it does mean we plan to emphasize the collective efforts of those who wish to see our region grow.
We spotlight people who make this a great place to live. You will be surprised at how special your neighbors are!
We focus on four major areas: Business, Community, Arts & Life and Sports.
Our Business Link section offers looks at real estate, development, finances, homes, technology and all the commercial enterprises that serve our community.
Our Community section will include in-depth reporting on education, health care, government and social issues.
Our Arts & Life pages will strive to bring you news on local cultural events and provide insight on emerging artists who will impact the national scene and those who liven things up locally. We have a wealth of talent in this area and we plan to showcase it.
Sports will offer feature stories on big, upcoming games, student-athlete profiles and news from the area’s high school, college and professional squads.
We are proud of the professional newspaper team we have assembled. We are excited to grow this business in the city and area we call home. I hope you will join me and be an active part of our efforts. Feel free to comment on our coverage, provide news tips or just be an active reader. We welcome your input.
