Crack down on child supportWritten by Autumn Lee | | firstname.lastname@example.org
There is no greater responsibility in life than being a parent. One of the great conundrums of nature is that while raising a child is difficult, challenging and requires great emotional investment and intellectual effort, creating a child is a relatively simple act that sadly requires no emotional investment or intellectual effort.
As it has been famously observed, you need a license to catch a fish or drive a car, but anyone with the proper tools lying around the house can make a baby.
We applaud the upcoming federal crack down on deadbeat parents, which will lower the arrears amount required to cancel a passport from $5,000 to $2,500. Every means that can be brought to pressure delinquent dads and missing moms into providing for their children should be brought to bear, with no exceptions.
The Lucas County Child Support Enforcement Agency is taking the lead by warning such criminals of the consequences of their crimes, and recent arrest sweeps are a powerful statement that not supporting a child carries major penalties.
We urge the agencies in question to continue hard pursuit of child support offenders, and to continue to increase the penalties for failing to deliver of parenthood’s most basic and vital promise.
