Monroe County Community College has announced its lineup of season events for 2006-07. Most of the events will take place at the La-Z-Boy Center, Meyer Theater.
Academy Award winner and Grammy nominee Steven Wright brings his conceptual stand-up comedy to the Meyer Theater on Oct. 12. Wright’s comedy is a slow, deadpan, monotone delivery of ironic, witty and deeply philosophical jokes and one-liners.
From Oct. 20 through 22, MCCC’s QuagMeyer Productions will present “All in the Timing,” a series of five one-act comedies by David Ives.
The Toledo Symphony, under the direction of Resident Conductor Chelsea Tipton II, returns to the Meyer Theater on Nov. 4, for an encore performance that will feature some of the most recognizable classic melodies and pop favorites, such as Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5”; Jacques Offenbach’s “Orpheus in the Underworld Overture”; John Williams’ “Superman March”; Duke Ellington’s “Sophisticated Lady” and many more.
On Nov. 11, audience members at the Meyer Theater will be able to take a trip “down a dark desert highway” and feel the “cool wind in their hair” as Hotel California (A Salute to the Eagles) transforms the Meyer Theater into its namesake. Accurately reproducing the classic sound of the Eagles, Hotel California delivers a modern, action-packed performance.
Three-time Grammy winner Tom Chapin brings his engaging vocals and intricate, melodic guitar work to the Meyer Theater on Jan. 27. For more than 30 years and through 18 compact discs, Chapin has entertained, amused and enlightened audiences of all ages with life-affirming original songs told in a sophisticated array of musical styles.
