UT prez faces inquisitionWritten by Reid Ahlbeck | | email@example.com
Predictably enough, incoming UT President Lloyd Jacobs has already been dragged before a pre-emptive conclave of ever-vigilant political correctness inquisitors from the university’s Department of Women’s and Gender Studies. Welcome to the machine, Dr. Jacobs.
Chief among the many ”concerns” and ”issues” of the ”womyn” is the lack of gender parity, i.e., the ”under-representation” of women in key academic and administrative positions at UT.
The false underlying assumption is that armies of qualified women are being mercilessly oppressed in the Ivory Tower and elsewhere by the nefarious international cabal of scheming and malevolent ”myn.”
Essentially dead in the real world, radical feminism still festers in America’s colleges and universities, where the race and gender identity politics of ”diversity,” ”multiculturalism” and ”raising awareness” reigns supreme.
No wonder National Review Washington Editor Kate O’Beirne, author of the recent book ”Women Who Make the World Worse: How Their Radical Feminist Assault Is Ruining Our Schools, Families, Military and Sports,” derisively refers to the feminist pseudo-discipline of Women’s Studies as ”You-Go-Girl Studies.”
There are other far more obvious and demonstrable (but politically incorrect and/or politically disadvantageous) explanations for the many ”inequalities” feminists wrongly attribute to discrimination.
Women in vast numbers have effectively disqualified themselves from serious academic endeavors and professional advancement in science, business, law, medicine etc., by instead squandering their talents and opportunities in such intellectually weak, touchy-feely pseudo-disciplines as Education and ”You-Go-Girl Studies.”
Lacking any meaningful education, these women are then only qualified to become professional feminist complainers, liberal propagandists and ”educators.”
Leading evolutionary biologist Steven Pinker’s outstanding book ”The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial of Human Nature,” illustrates the various ways innate biological gender differences also play a crucial role in determining the academic and professional careers of both men and women.
Liberal feminists are in essence fundamentalist ideologues intent upon having their revenge against the ”capitalist imperialist western white male patriarchy” they wrongly perceive as being the root of all evil and cause of all their ”suffering.”
Feminist fundamentalists have upped the ante on religious fundamentalists by actually endeavoring to repress, control and deny the very existence of human gender difference for their own narrow political purposes.
The pedagogy and curriculum of American schools and universities have accordingly been systematically politicized and feminized, one might even say emasculated.
After their college indoctrination into the wild, speculative theories of assorted liberal Marxist/feminist theorists — from Herbert Marcuse and the Frankfurt School to Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Betty Friedan, Noam Chomsky, Cornel West and Carol Gilligan — feminists and liberal ideologues then go about spreading the gospel of postmodern irrationalism, anger, resentment, nihilism and Marxist revolution.
These bizarre anti-science/anti-everything postmodern ideas were never remotely plausible in the first place, but have now even been disowned as regrettable embarrassments by most leading partisans, like Stanley Fish and Terry Eagleton, who have formally pronounced the postmortem on the cult of ”theory.”
With blatant intellectual dishonesty, feminists nonetheless continue to cite as infallible holy writ such bogus and discredited postmodern Marxist/feminist theory in support of their outlandish agendas. There is sadly no expiration date on bad ideas at universities.
Equal opportunity already exists for women in virtually every arena.
But equal outcomes, i.e. the much ballyhooed but entirely arbitrary feminist Holy Grail of absolute gender parity, never will exist in the academy or anywhere else for the simple reason that, as Steven Pinker points out, men and women are innately and blessedly different and therefore, not surprisingly, often freely and happily choose different paths in life.
The warped ideological fantasies and relentless political strong-arm tactics of radical feminist fundamentalists and other misguided liberal ideologues should be opposed with vigor by UT leadership and anyone else who values a truly free society founded upon an abiding respect for real social justice, real education, human dignity and common decency.
