Toledo, Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority President James H. Hartung welcomed Ironhead Marine and its president, Tony LaMantia as the new operator of the Toledo Shipyard Feb. 21.
”We have a new operator. Soon we’ll have a new facility,” Hartung said, referring to the high-bay facility that will be constructed on the shipyard grounds. ”With Ironhead Marine leading the way, Toledo will soon be building ships on the Great Lakes.”
Ironhead Marine was one of three companies that expressed interest in operating the shipyard when Manitowoc Marine Group – previous operators of Toledo Ship Repair – announced that it planned to terminate its lease and vacate the facility effective Jan. 31. According to a press release, Ironhead was chosen because of its track record of success in the metal fabrication industry, its ability to mobilize resources quickly to obtain winter ship repair business, and its strong desire to market the facility and bring new business and new jobs to Toledo.
