Biographer seeks Holmes stories
Written by Michael Miller | Editor in Chief | mmiller@toledofreepress.comAndrew Morton, the British journalist best known for authoring the official biography of Princess Diana, is looking for stories about Toledoan Katie Holmes, whom he calls ”the uncrowned queen of Hollywood.”
Morton is working on a biography of actor Tom Cruise and is concurrently researching Holmes’ background. The engaged couple are expecting a child this summer.
”I look at their wedding as the American equivalent of a royal wedding,” Morton told Toledo Free Press from Los Angeles. ”Just as I researched the backgrounds of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, I’m looking for stories about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. He is the uncrowned king of Hollywood and this marriage will make her the queen.”
Morton said Princess Diana worked with him for more than a year on the book ”Diana: Her true Story,” a No. 1 international best seller. He has also written books on Monica Lewinski, Madonna and other celebrities and heads of state.
Cruise’s sister and one-time publicist, Lee Anne De Vette, reportedly sent a letter to people in Holmes’ circle asking them to not cooperate with Morton.
Morton is asking Toledoans with stories about Holmes to contact him through Katieinfo@hotmail.com.
”From all accounts she’s basically a good, decent person,” Morton said. He said he is looking for ”the whole picture” for his book.
Martin Holmes Sr., Holmes’ father, told Toledo Free Press the family does not support Morton’s efforts and discourages people from sharing stories with Morton.
”We as a family do not want [him] to write about our family or Katie,” Holmes said. ”The answer from the family is no. He does not have our authority.”
According to the New York Daily News, St. Martin’s Press is planning to publish the book this fall.
